George Parish has had a busy couple of days! He announced that he would not be running for re-election as Clerk of the Peace yet will perform Civil Unions when they become legal in a few months.
Sussex County Clerk of the Peace George Parish has had two major announcements in the past 24 hours.
First, Parish told the Sussex County Republican Committee Monday night that he WILL perform same sex unions in Delawarewhen they become legal on January 1. That’s despite the fact that he strongly opposes the law passed this past year by the General Assembly.
Parish’s second announcement came this morning; he says he will run for a seat on the Sussex County Council in 2014.
Parish says he will run for the District 4 seat currently held by Councilman George Cole only IF Cole decides NOT to run for re-election; District 4 encompasses Southeastern Sussex County; Cole has held the seat since 1986.
There has been much speculation over whether George Parish would perform the Civil Unions as he claims to be strongly opposed to them and they were not “legal” when he was elected. Many in the GOP are criticizing him for changing his stance although he is an elected official doing his job.
