If there’s anything that people across the globe truly need and want, it’s more fizzy sugar water. And so PepsiCo is investing more money in getting the attention and the business of consumers in the world’s largest market. Their latest attention-getting scheme and bit of inter-brand synergy between two of the company’s signature brands: Cola chicken-flavored Lay’s potato chips.
It’s less wacky than it sounds: cola chicken is a popular dish in China”The flavor is vaguely similar to barbecue with a sugary aftertaste,” notes AdAge. “If there’s any hint of Pepsi, it’s fleeting and lacks fizz.” Are fizzy potato chips more or less appealing than non-fizzy potato chips?
In China, Lay’s launches a flavor every year. Past novelties have included lemon tea, cucumber, and hot-and-sour soup.
