Authorities in Terre Haute, Indiana said a 54-year-old man shot and killed his wife before taking his own life, just hours after the couple got married, theIndianapolis Star reported.

Emergency dispatchers received multiple calls from 50-year-old Kelly Samson early Sunday morning saying she had been attacked by her husband, George “Scott” Samson. Local sheriff’s deputies said they later found Kelly Samson’s body inside their son’s bedroom, with several gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Her husband’s body was found in the basement with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Vigo County Chief Deputy Sheriff Clark Cottom told the Star that the couple got into a verbal argument toward the end of their wedding reception on Saturday night. He did not specify the nature of the argument, saying his department was still gathering statements from attendees.

“Shortly after the last guest left at around 1:17 a.m., Kelly Ecker Samson called 911 reporting that her husband had threatened to kill her,” Cottom said. “There were a total of three very brief 911 calls, which in the first two the caller disconnected.”

The child and an elderly couple staying at the couple’s home were removed. WTHI-TV reported that, according to Cottom, the Samsons had been having some “domestic problems.”

“Within a short amount of time guests decided it would be best if they left,” he said.
