Conservatives Are Now Flipping Out At John McCain And Lindsay Graham
Just hours after Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) slammed Sen. Rand Paul on the Senate floor, conservatives are turning on the Republican Party’s “old bulls.”
In a floor speech this morning, McCain accused Paul of using the filibuster to “fire up impressionable libertarian kids.” Graham claimed Paul was ignoring national security threats, using a ludicrous chart to illustrate his point,
“It was embarrassing,” a senior Republican Senate aide told Business Insider. “It definitely looked like two guys whose time has passed. They are behind history, and they are the only people in the room who don’t know it yet.”
Actor John Cusack describes himself as a progressive, but he has been a critic of the federal government’s drone program regardless of who has been is in office. Frankly, he has also be a pretty harsh critic of President Barack Obama as well.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and other GOP senators on Wednesday conducted an old-school filibuster on the Senate floor to block John Brennan’s nomination and bring attention to the potential for drone strikes on U.S. soil. As the hours went by, Cusack was curious to know: “where are Democrats?”
White House to Rand Paul: ‘The Answer is No.’ Rand Accepts.
Attorney General Eric Holder wrote Sen. Rand Paul,R-Ky., to confirm that President Obama does not have the authority to kill an American on U.S. soil in a non-combat situation, Obama’s spokesman announced today.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney quoted from the letter that Holder sent to Paul today. “Does the president have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on an American soil?” Holder wrote, per Carney. “The answer is no.”
Here is the complete text of Holder’s letter. This news comes hours after Senators McCain and Graham scolded Rand Paul and his efforts on the Senate floor last night, with Graham saying Rand’s question about Obama’s authority to kill US citizens is “offensive” and doesn’t “deserve an answer.”
John McCain Makes Insulting Comment About ‘Impressionable’ Young Libertarians In a speech slamming Sen. Rand Paul on the Senate floor this morning, Sen. John McCain quoted heavily from a Wall Street Journal editorial that charged Paul’s marathon filibuster on Wednesday was a “political stunt.”
The editorial took a shot — which McCain chose to repeat — at what they saw were Paul’s intended targets in his filibuster of CIA Director nominee John Brennan: young libertarians.
“If Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously he needs to do more than pull political stunts that fire up impressionable libertarian kids in their college dorms,” McCain said, quoting the Journal. “He needs to know what he’s talking about.”
